Background of the Study
Financial aid allocation is a critical aspect of university administration, aimed at providing support to students who are in financial need. However, the process of allocating financial aid, whether through scholarships, grants, or loans, is often complex and can be subject to biases, inefficiencies, and delays. At Benue State University, located in Makurdi LGA, Benue State, there is a pressing need for a more efficient, equitable, and transparent system for distributing financial aid to students.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionize financial aid allocation by providing data-driven, automated solutions that can consider a range of factors such as academic performance, financial status, and socio-economic background. AI-powered systems can analyze large volumes of data to make personalized recommendations for financial aid, thereby reducing the potential for human bias and error. This study aims to investigate the implementation of AI-based systems for the allocation of financial aid at Benue State University.
Statement of the Problem
The current financial aid allocation system at Benue State University relies heavily on manual processes, which can result in delays, inefficiencies, and an unequal distribution of funds. Additionally, the subjective nature of the decision-making process can lead to biases and unfair treatment of students. There is a need for an AI-based financial aid allocation system that can optimize the distribution of funds, ensuring that aid is provided fairly and efficiently to deserving students.
Objectives of the Study
1. To design an AI-based financial aid allocation system for Benue State University.
2. To assess the effectiveness of the AI-based system in providing equitable financial aid to students.
3. To evaluate the impact of AI-driven financial aid allocation on the university’s administrative efficiency and fairness.
Research Questions
1. How can an AI-based system be designed to optimize financial aid allocation at Benue State University?
2. What is the impact of an AI-based financial aid allocation system on fairness and efficiency in the distribution of funds?
3. How do students and administrators perceive the implementation of AI-driven financial aid allocation?
Research Hypotheses
1. An AI-based financial aid allocation system will result in a more equitable distribution of funds compared to the traditional manual system.
2. The implementation of AI-driven financial aid allocation will improve the efficiency and speed of the allocation process at Benue State University.
3. Students and administrators will perceive AI-based financial aid allocation as more transparent and fair.
Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to the optimization of financial aid distribution in universities by exploring the potential of AI-based systems to enhance fairness, transparency, and efficiency. The findings will be beneficial to Benue State University, as well as other higher education institutions seeking to modernize their financial aid allocation processes.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the design and evaluation of an AI-based financial aid allocation system specifically for Benue State University, located in Makurdi LGA, Benue State. The study will be limited to financial aid distribution and will not cover other aspects of university financial management.
